KMV organises educational visit to Sardar Swaran Singh National Institute of Bioenergy

Jalandhar, February 19, 2023: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organized an Educational visit to Sardar Swaran Singh (SSS) National Institute of Bioenergy (NIBE), Kapurthala under the aegis of Curie Grant. The trip was organized by PG Department of Chemistry. Forty Nine students accompanied by three faculties were part of this educational visit. The visit was aimed at exploring the students about research facilities and working environment of a national level research institute.

On the arrival, Rawel Singh, senior scientist of NIBE welcomed and briefed the students about the research divisions and activities of the research institute. First of all, students visited the Analytical Laboratory and have demonstration on High Pressure Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography and UV-vis spectrophotometer. Afterwards, they visited bioprocess, molecular biology labs, chemical conversion and electrochemical labs and had detailed discussion about the objective of the institute to regenerate bio-energy from waste biomasses and conservation of energy by changing various traditional and electrochemical methods. In addition, students got familiar to various research protocols and sophisticated lab instruments/ equipments such as Cryofreezer, Laminar flow, flash point apparatus, modified cook stoves etc. The students showed a great enthusiasm in research and development of various biochemical processes.  During visit to various research divisions, students also interacted with the scientists where they asked questions about all possible procedures to get an internship and projects in institute.

Principal Dr. Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of the teachers to organize such educational visits which are important for bridging the gap between classroom learning and practical exposure.
