KMV organises 9th Academic Council Meeting- Five Year Integrated Programmes introduced

Jalandhar, August 31, 2023: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) organized the 9th meeting of Academic Council. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi, Principal KMV and was graced by acclaimed luminaries as members. 

Dr. Vasudha Sambyal, Professor, Department of Human Genetics, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar,  Dr. Rajinder Kaur, Professor, Department of Botanical &   Environment Science, GNDU, Amritsar, Dr. Deepa Sikand Kauts,  Professor, Department of Education, GNDU, Amritsar, Dr.  Renu Bharadwaj, Professor, Department of Botanical & Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar,  Dr. Umesh Kumar, Scientist F, Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, Dr. Nikhil Kumar, Education Officer, UGC New Delhi, along with the Deans and Heads of various Departments of KMV provided their valuable inputs as members of Academic Council. 

Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi informed the house that the institution is achieving new heights and covering new milestones. The progress of the college under the autonomy was appreciated by the Academic Council members. The first main decision undertaken during the meeting was introduction to FYIP (Five Year Integrated Programmes) in sync with New Education Policy of Govt. of India. Under this system students will be offered multiple entries and exit. After three years student can graduate in the major subject. After four years student can exit with Hons. Degree in major subject or in research, and after five years Masters degree will be granted to the students. The ordinance concerning credit policy of college was discussed in detail and was passed by the house with reforms which are women centric. Second major decision that was taken during the meeting was the introduction of two new programmes namely M.Sc. Economics and BBA in Airlines and Airport Management which are very much in demand in global market. With these two major decisions KMV will become only college in the state to offer these programmes. A new certificate course in ‘Diabetic Educator’ is also introduced as per the demands of current times. The programme of B.Sc. Fashion Designing is also enriched with introduction of two new courses dealing with 3-D animation in Textile Design in collaboration with Department of Animation as a multidisciplinary approach. 

It is pertinent to mention that the KMV is already running 26 undergraduate, 21 postgraduate programs, 5 diploma courses, and 28 certificate courses.  Also all the undergraduate programmes like BA, B.Sc. B.Com. are being taken under Credit Based Continuous Evaluation Grading System (CBCEGS) with 20% internal assessment. It is worthy to note that all Master Programmes and B. Voc. programs are already running under the credit system. Moreover, in sync with UGC guidelines, KMV will be able to allow students to pursue two undergraduate degrees simultaneously provided they fulfill the conditions specified by UGC & students can also transfer their MOOCs credit to their total credits. 

Principal Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi averred that these reforms which meet global standards will help students gain an edge and will assist them to get assimilated in global education system. She lauded the efforts of Dr. Gopi Sharma, Incharge, Autonomy, Parminder Kaur, Co-ordinator, IQAC, Hardeep Kaur, Controller of Examinations & all the members of the Academic Council of the college.
