KMV leads in selfless service to the humanity

Jalandhar, January 21, 2022: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) has been at the  forefront in owning its social responsibility. In this regard the college has been actively involved in various social outreach activities like adoption of schools, literacy drive programs, running free vocational training courses for the girls of economically weaker sections of the society, tree donation and tree plantation camps, awareness rallies against drugs, female foeticide, dowry and visits to old age homes and orphanages. Gandhian Studies Centre granted by UGC to KMV since its inception in 2007 has been working towards spreading the Gandhian philosophy among the various sections of the society through its programs. This centre is empowering women by providing them life skills in Fashion Designing, Cosmetology and Basic Computers.  The centre has empowered more than 4000 girls free of cost both within the college campus and through various camps in villages. Carrying forward the mission of selfless service of humanity, KMV has initiated Empathy Corner outside the college campus which aims to create a sense of responsibility and empathy among the younger generation. This is a place where the daily requirements of common people are placed like clothes, blanket, shoes, utensils, toys etc. which can be picked up by any needy passerby. Different departments of the college have collaborated with the Gandhian Studies Centre in the functioning of the Empathy Corner. Among the various social initiatives the college has been doing consistent work for the students of Banarsi Dass Charitable School, Transport Nagar, Jalandhar adopted by KMV in 2009. The College  has extended assistance in the form of providing benches, tables, chairs, getting the school building white washed, stationery, bags, blackboard, fans etc. Since 2009, the college has also set up a library and a toy room for the children in the school. With the mission of spreading awareness regarding clean and green environment the college has also initiated tree donation and tree plantation camps in Transport Nagar, Village Ibrahimpur and adopted a park in Vikaspuri, Jalandhar. Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi lauded the efforts of Dean Social Outreach, Dr. Monica Sharma and averred that the vision of KMV is value-based nurturing of students and activities of this nature play a pivotal role in evolving the students and making them valuable citizens.
