KMV empowers students with Self-Defence classes
Self-defence training is the foundation of confidence and empowerment for young women: Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi
Jalandhar, October 25, 2025: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous), a leading institution dedicated to the holistic empowerment of young women, successfully organised a crucial workshop on Self-Defence Techniques. The event was conducted under the aegis of the Women's Studies Centre as part of the value-added Gender Sensitisation Program for undergraduate students of Semester III.
The workshop aimed to instil confidence, promote physical fitness, and equip students with the essential skills to cope with adverse situations in their daily lives, thereby enabling them to lead a secure and decent life. Sunil Kumar, an acclaimed International Karate Player, served as the resource person for this impactful session. Drawing on his extensive expertise, Kumar provided comprehensive training, focusing on the importance of self-defence and martial arts techniques. He demonstrated and taught practical, easy-to-learn self-defence moves that students could effectively use in emergencies. The event saw enthusiastic and spirited participation from a wide array of disciplines- all from semester III. Their active involvement underscored the students' keen interest in taking charge of their personal safety and security.
Principal Prof. Atima Sharma Dwivedi, who also serves as the Director of the Centre for Women's Studies, commended the initiative. She encouraged all the participating students, urging them to take an active part in such important, life-skills-based events.
Prof. Dwivedi also took the opportunity to laud the dedication and efforts of Amarpreet Khurana, Coordinator of the Women's Studies Centre, and her entire team for the seamless and successful organisation of the workshop.
