Jalandhar, October 10, 2206: Kanya Maha Vidyalaya (Autonomous) P.G. Department of Psychology, celebrated World Mental Health Day through a week-long series of engaging, creative, and awareness-oriented activities. The celebrations aimed to promote awareness about mental health and emphasise the importance of psychological well-being as an integral component of overall health.
A range of interactive activities was organised for the students throughout the week. These included a Mental Health Quiz, Collage-Making Competition, T-Shirt Painting Competition, and “Mindful Bites” – a Healthy Eating and Fire-Free Cooking Competition. Based on the theme of mental health and well-being, these activities provided students with opportunities to express their creativity while developing awareness about healthy lifestyle practices. Mindful Bites particularly highlighted the connection between nutrition, mindful eating, physical health, and psychological well-being, with students preparing healthy and nutritious dishes without the use of fire. On World Mental Health Day, the Department set up a Psychological Testing Booth and a Mind Games Booth, which received enthusiastic participation from students. The Psychological Testing Booth provided students with an opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to psychological assessment and understand how psychological tools can be used to explore different aspects of human behaviour. The Mind Games Booth featured engaging activities designed to stimulate cognitive abilities such as attention, memory, concentration, reasoning, and problem-solving. Another major attraction of the celebration was the display of innovative models based on various psychological concepts. The students prepared and presented models that translated theoretical psychological concepts into creative and visually engaging formats. The students participated actively and enthusiastically in all the activities, making the week-long celebration vibrant and meaningful. The programmes not only enhanced awareness regarding mental health but also encouraged students to adopt healthy habits, engage in creative expression, and recognise the importance of psychological well-being in everyday life.
The efforts of the P.G. Department of Psychology in organising the week-long celebration and creating awareness about mental health were appreciated and applauded by the Director Prof. (Dr.) Atima Sharma Dwivedi. She averred that mental health is an essential part of overall well-being and deserves the same care, attention, and importance as physical health. The initiative successfully created an engaging platform for students to learn, participate, and spread awareness about the significance of mental health in building a healthy and resilient community.
