Amritsar, September 3, 2023: Ivy Hospital, Amritsar has launched initiatives to raise awareness about esophageal cancer risk factors, its early detection and the importance of seeking medical advice promptly.
Giving information, Dr Sheshank Mahajan, consultant of surgical oncology said that we believe that empowering patients with knowledge is an integral part of the battle against this disease.
He further said that symptoms like difficulty in swallowing, unintended weight loss, heartburn etc. could help in detecting esophageal cancer early whereas recent change in voice associated with difficulty in swallowing may point towards advanced disease. It is paramount to seek medical advice promptly as it is curable when detected early, he opined.
Dr Sheshank also emphasized that esophageal cancer requires a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach.
From accurate diagnostics to tailored treatment plans, we are witnessing a transformation in how we combat this disease, he said adding our focus is not only on extending survival but also on enhancing the patient's well-being throughout their journey.
