Issue of Central University emerges up in Dharamshala MC elections

Dharamshala: In the ongoing Dharamshala Municipal Corporation Elections the issue of Central University has emerged up.
State spokesperson of Congress Dr. Rajesh Sharma has openly challenged the Jairam government and the state BJP to answer on the issue of central university. Dr. Sharma said that the BJP came to power by making the Central University an issue and told why the land has not been selected for the Central University despite the BJP government in the state for more than 3 years now? Why is the Central University still running in the buildings of other departments in Dharamshala?

Dr Sharma further asked that BJP should answer why their own organization ABVP is agitating against them? Why the appointment of a regular vice-chancellor, registrar and controller of examinations has not been done in the Central University for the past 1 year.

Dr Sharma said, “The Jairam government is not interested in setting up this University ,given by the Congress led Indian government, it is  trying to end the existence of a central university, despite the BJP being the government at the centre and the state. This is the clear case of discrimination against the people of Kangra? Is this not a conspiracy to stop the new generation of Himachal Pradesh from moving forward in the field of research?”

Dr. Sharma has given a tough challenge to the BJP on the issue of Central University. Dr. Sharma said that if the BJP does not answer these questions, then the public will give them a message to go out of power by not only the Municipal Corporation but also in 2022 assembly elections.

The Students wing of the ruling BJP in the state has already started an agitation to pressurise the government for setting up of the permanent campus of the university in Dharamshala

The ABVP activists of Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) have been sitting on dharna at Dharamshala for the past 7 weeks. The academic and general administrative work of CUHP has been hit due to the agitation. There was an acute shortage of space for classes and laboratories on CUHP campus, as these classes are being run in buildings of other departments

Central University Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) that has been awaiting permanent campus for the past 11 years now was once again in controversy. It was settled during the former BJP government led by Prem Kumar Dhumal that two campuses of CUHP would come up at Dehra and Dharamshala. Authorities said 80-acre had been transferred in the name of the university at Dehra. However, the transfer of another 300-acre was still in process.

A political slugfest has been going on between the leaders of Dehra and Dharamshala irrespective of political parties to take majority campus of the CUHP in their respective areas. The case of transfer of another 300 acre land in the name of CUHP at Jadrangal near Dharamshala is  in the process,

Central University of Himachal Pradesh is a central research university headquartered from Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, India. It is operating from a temporary campus at Dharamshala, pending the construction of two permanent campuses, at Dehra and Dharamshala. The university was founded in 2009 as a result of the government's policy to establish Central Universities in each of the states that do not already have a central university. The Central University of Himachal Pradesh is established under the Central Universities Act 2009 enacted by the Parliament.
