International Patient Safety Day being observed at DMCH, Ludhiana on Wednesday.

Ludhiana, December 9, 2015: To raise awareness about the safety of patient, World Patient Safety Day is celebrated every year on 9th of December. DMCH observed this day by organizing an informative lecture for nursing staff and students as well.
In her lecture, Nursing Superintendent Meenakshi Pereira stated that Dayanand Medical College & Hospital is committed to excellence, of which Patient Safety forms a very important part. She termed patient safety as a very complex task, which requires dedicated efforts of all employees of the hospital.
While elaborating the intricacies of patient safety, Mrs Silky (Nursing Supervisor) said    Patient safety is a global public health concern and is a fundamental principle of health care institution.
Hospital is a place which provides treatment to sick people round the clock. However at times, it could turn out to be life threatening as well. Every process of patient care safety involves a certain degree of uncertainty. The discipline of patient safety highlights the importance to prevent harm to patients, caused by the process of healthcare itself.  Improving patient safety means reducing harm to the patient.
Some important Patient Safety tips were discussed during the lecture include:-
?  Identifying patients correctly
?  Improve effective communication.
?  Improve the safety of using medication, which includes labeling of all medications and recording and communicate accurate patient medication information
?  Follow double check before administering high alert medication
?  Ensure Correct Site, Correct Procedure and Correct Patient Surgery
?  Reducing the risk of Health Care Associate Associated Infections.
