International Mother Language Day celebrations at PU
The wardens of Boys Hostels No. 04 05, 06, and 07, Panjab University, Chandigarh   celebrating the Matri Bhasha Diwas.

Chandigarh, February 21, 2022: Mehar Chand Mahajan, Boys Hostel number 1, Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated the International Mother Language Day by honouring the faculty members of various language department of the Panjab University, Chandigarh. Flowers were presented to Dr. Praveen Kumar, Panjabi Department, USOL,  Dr. Abbas Ali, Urdu Department and Prof. Akshay Kumar & Dr. Meenu Gupta from the English Department to name a few. Flowers were also presented to the faculty of other departments such as Hindi, Sanskrit, French and German. On this occasion, Dr. Rajeev Kumar, Warden BH1, said that mother tongue is a very influential medium for dissemination of culture and teachers play a crucial role in this unification. Often the efforts made by the language teachers go unnoticed and are taken for granted. Therefore, on the International Mother Language Day, is our duty to recognize their efforts and contributions in disseminating our culture to the young minds. He further added that Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu and English are the mother tongue of spectrum of students studying at the Panjab University. Therefore, it’s important to celebrate and acknowledge the mother tongue and promote its maximum use, so as to strengthen the multilingual foundations of our civilization.

The wardens of Boys Hostels No. 04 05, 06, and 07, Panjab University, Chandigarh   celebrated the Matri Bhasha Diwas in the Common Room of  Boys Hostel no. 5 under the guidance of Prof. Jagtar Singh (DSW), Prof.  Meena Sharma (DSW-W) and Prof, Ashok Kumar (Associate DSW). About 50 persons including wardens, residents and Staff  participated in the programme .
Dr. Bharat, Warden Boys hostel No. 04 give a thoroughly lecture on the Matri Bhasha, Dr. Amit Chuhan, Warden Boys hostel No. 06 also give a lecture and Dr. Makan Singh, Warden Boys No. 05 thanked the guests and residents for participating in the programme.  In the end of occasion ten and snaks served to the all.

International Mother Language day was celebrated by Mata Gujri Hall (Girls Hostel 1) and LuxmiBai Hall (Girls Hostel 2), Panjab University, Chandigarh where students participated in various literary activities on the theme 'Language without Borders'. Prof Meena Sharma, Dean Student Welfare(Women) graced the occasion.

Language is the best form of communication and unites countries and communities all over the world, says Dr. Ali Abbas, Coordinator of the department of Urdu, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Addressing the students of the department of Urdu Dr. Ali Abbas said the language had protected the legacy of various ancient civilization for the next many generations.
Dr. Ali Abbas said that the language had bequeathed to us a sense of discipline through grammar.  “Discipline regulates development of human life and language  on scientific lines”  he added.
