DAV University Marks National Sports Day with 10th Cross Country Race
DAV University, Jalandhar celebrated National Sports Day 2025 by organizing its 10th Cross Country Race in tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, fondly remembered as the Wizard of Hockey. The race was flagged off at 7:00 a.m and more than 130 students from DAV University, neighboring villages, and schools enthusiastically participated in the event. The boys competed in a 12 km run, while the girls’ race covered 5 km.

Jalandhar, August 30, 2025: DAV University, Jalandhar celebrated National Sports Day 2025 by organizing its 10th Cross Country Race in tribute to hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, fondly remembered as the Wizard of Hockey. The race was flagged off at 7:00 a.m and more than 130 students from DAV University, neighboring villages, and schools enthusiastically participated in the event. The boys competed in a 12 km run, while the girls’ race covered 5 km.
In the girls’ category, Kajal Kumari bagged the first position, followed by Rajju in second place and Indu Kumari in third. Roshan secured the top spot, with Vijay finishing second and Aditya Kumar claiming third place in the boys’ category. The winners were awarded with medallions, certificates and cash prizes
Congratulating the winners, Prof. (Dr) Manoj Kumar, Vice Chancellor, DAV University, said, National Sports Day reminds us of the glorious legacy of Major Dhyan Chand and inspires our youth to pursue excellence in both academics and sports. The event concluded with an inspiring address by Dr. Yeshbeer Singh, who highlighted the significance of fitness, discipline, and sportsmanship as essential values for life. The annual cross-country race once again underlined DAV University’s commitment to nurturing sporting spirit, promoting fitness, and encouraging healthy competition among youth.
