Innocent Hearts College of Education Celebrates International Literacy Day with Focus on Literacy for People, Planet and Prosperity
The NSS Unit of Innocent Hearts College of Education celebrated International literacy day with 2026 theme given by UNESCO i.e. “Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity,” marking the 60th anniversary of the day's proclamation by UNESCO. Reaching out to the masses for educating them through mass media and spreading the importance of literacy was the main objective of the event.

Jalandhar, September 8, 2026: The NSS Unit of Innocent Hearts College of Education celebrated International literacy day with 2026 theme given by UNESCO i.e. “Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity,” marking the 60th anniversary of the day's proclamation by UNESCO. Reaching out to the masses for educating them through mass media and spreading the importance of literacy was the main objective of the event.
A drama entitled ‘Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope’ was enacted by the student-teachers with different scenes depicting real-life situations. The NSS unit composed the script, dialogues, chose appropriate costumes, prepared props and animated backgrounds beforehand. NSS volunteer Aarti performed as the narrator. Anmol Nagpal, Arti Mankotia, Divya Gabba, Payal, Sidhant Babbar and Smiksha played the roles of illiterate and literate individuals. Through different scenes they highlighted the importance of education. In a scene they showed how an educated lady saved an uneducated woman from being fooled by a cunning shopkeeper at the grocery who was going to misuse her debit card with her mobile one time password. In another scene an educated daughter saved her illiterate mother from losing her property by reading the papers for her on which she was about to put her thumb impression. This way through various scenes the student-teachers highlighted the importance of literacy and value education.
Principal Dr. Arjinder Singh said that drama incorporates the constructivist approach of teaching in which a teacher acts as a facilitator while students construct their own knowledge. Principal and educators congratulated all the participants for their marvelous performances and certificates were given to all.
