Indian Army Commemorates Operation ‘Akal’ on 54th DBN Day at Dera Baba Nanak

The Indian Army solemnly commemorated the 54th DBN Day and honoured the valour of the Dograi Brigade Warriors of Operation ‘Akal’ (1971) at Dera Baba Nanak, Punjab. Operation Akal was a key offensive launched by Vajra Corps on the Western Front, aimed at fixing Pakistan’s 1 Corps in the Shakargarh sector.

Jalandhar, December 6, 2025: The Indian Army solemnly commemorated the 54th DBN Day and honoured the valour of the Dograi Brigade Warriors of Operation ‘Akal’ (1971) at Dera Baba Nanak, Punjab. Operation Akal was a key offensive launched by Vajra Corps on the Western Front, aimed at fixing Pakistan’s 1 Corps in the Shakargarh sector.

 

The commemoration commenced with a wreath-laying ceremony, attended by Senior Army Officers, Veterans, and representatives of Civil Administration, paying homage to the bravery, professionalism, and supreme sacrifice of the Soldiers who upheld highest traditions of the Indian Army while safeguarding the nation’s security.

 

Addressing the gathering, Maj Gen Kartik C Seshadri, VSM highlighted the enduring legacy and operational significance of Operation Akal, reaffirming Indian Army’s commitment to maintaining high Operational Preparedness along the Western Frontier and remaining ever vigilant in defence of the Nation.

 

The event witnessed heartfelt interactions with Veterans and members of the local community, reinforcing the timeless bond between the Army and the people, and strengthening the spirit of Military - Citizen connect.

 

As a run-up to the commemoration, cultural and community outreach initiatives were organised, reflecting the Indian Army’s ethos of service and its close association with the people it serves.

 

The observance concluded with a renewed pledge by the Indian Army to remain steadfast, vigilant, and dedicated to the defence of India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, honouring the legacy of the brave soldiers of DBN whose courage continues to inspire generations.
