India Has Fallen Behind Bangladesh in Per Capita Income: Arvind Kejriwal

New Delhi, August 21, 2026: India falling behind Bangladesh in annual per capita income has raised serious concerns, with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal questioning the economic record of the Modi Government. In a post on social media platform X, he shared that India’s per capita income has now fallen below Bangladesh’s. The AAP Chief stated that people had elected PM Modi hoping he would make India the world’s wealthiest country, but “he has made India poorer than Bangladesh.”
In a video message, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal said, “I am going to tell you something that will come as a major shock to every patriot. India has now been declared a poorer country than Bangladesh.”
The AAP Chief further pointed out, “India’s annual per capita income is $2,800, while Bangladesh’s is $2,900. In 2014, when PM Modi became Prime Minister, our per capita income was much higher than Bangladesh’s. In 2014, our per capita income was $1,600, while Bangladesh’s was $1,100, but today Bangladesh has overtaken us. Switzerland’s per capita income is $115,000, Singapore’s is $99,000 and America’s is $90,000.”
Arvind Kejriwal asserted, “In 2014, people elected PM Modi with great hope that we would overtake America. Little did we know that the people who promised us the dream of making India a Vishwaguru would loot and drain the country to such an extent that, 12 years later, India would become poorer than Bangladesh.”
