Rohtak, September 30, 2026: In the age of AI, filmmakers and creative professionals must develop deep expertise in their respective fields to stay relevant, filmmaker-director Akashaditya Lama told students at a masterclass at Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts (DLC SUPVA) today.
Organised for students of the Faculty of Film and Television, the session focused on the nuances of film writing, direction and production. Sharing his experiences from Bollywood, Lama said a good film begins with a strong story and screenplay, while a director must combine technical knowledge with an understanding of characters and their emotional worlds.
He urged students to closely observe people, events and their social surroundings, saying screenplay writing was not merely a sequence of events but the foundation of a film’s visual language and emotional journey.
Lama also stressed effective communication between directors, actors and technical teams. Describing filmmaking as a collaborative art, he said a director must bring the strengths of different departments together through a common creative vision.
Highlighting the value of theatre experience, he said it helps develop dialogue delivery, acting skills and stage discipline.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Amit Arya welcomed Lama. National Award-winning filmmaker Atul Gangwar, Registrar Dr Gunjan Malik Manocha and other officials were also present.
Lama began his career as an assistant director on Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.
