Importance of Legal Services Day

Legal Services Day is celebrated every year on 9th of November across the nation; started by Hon’ble Supreme Court in year 1995, the day commemorates the enactment of the Indian Legal Services Authorities Act 1987, which came into force on 9th November 1995. The day aims at spreading legal awareness as well as providing free legal aid and advice to the poor and weaker sections of the society, so as to ensure justice for all.
On this day several legal literacy camps, functions and Lok Adalats are organized to make the legal system operations safe and encourage righteousness of people on the equality basis. People from different walks of life, Government as well as non-governmental organizations participate and offer their services in these camps related to the Legal Services Day,  with an aim to offer the free of charge, proficient and legal services to the people of weaker sections of society taking into consideration Article 39A of the Indian Constitution which affirms that State shall secure that the operation of the legal system promotes justice on a basis of equal opportunity, and shall in particular, provide free legal aid, by suitable legislation or schemes or in any other way, to ensure that opportunities for securing justice are not denied to any citizen by reason of economic or other disability. This day also aims to educate students and children of the early age about their constitutional rights and laws and thus making them aware about child labor. This day signifies the importance of social welfare made by  India as per the constitutional instinct.
