Jalandhar / Kapurthala, December 14, 2025: In a decisive move to prepare students for an AI-driven economy, I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU) has launched an initiative to introduce AI-focused coursework across Computer Science and IT-related branches. University also to roll out a university-wide foundation program titled “Powers of AI” for students across engineering and other science and technology streams. For this University signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a trusted brand SARAS AI Institute.

IKGPTU Vice Chancellor Prof.(Dr.) Susheel Mittal shared about the initiative with academic leaders. He shared that this initiative aimed at ensuring that every graduate of IKGPTU leaves campus with a working understanding of AI—not just as a technology trend, but as a practical tool that is reshaping services, manufacturing, education, healthcare, and business operations. University officials said the plan is designed to improve student readiness for the evolving job market and to strengthen employability outcomes.

The courses are being developed with industry inputs and are designed in collaboration with professionals associated with leading global technology companies such as Microsoft, Google, Apple, and others. The University said this industry-aligned approach will help students learn AI in a way that is relevant to real-world use cases and future roles.

The “Powers of AI” program will be delivered in online mode, and the University will bear the full cost of the training to ensure wide access for learners. It is planned to be required for students, reflecting IKGPTU’s larger intent to align academics with future-ready skills and workforce relevance.

Vice-Chancellor Dr. Susheel Mittal underscored the significance of the initiative, saying “AI is no longer optional—it is becoming a basic life-skill for careers across every sector. Our intent is simple: every IKGPTU graduate should be confident in understanding and using AI responsibly, so they can compete, contribute, and lead in the future.”

The initiative was shared during a meeting with industry representatives from SARAS AI Institute (USA), led by Mr. Amit Kataria, Co-Founder and Mr. Aman Gupta, CTO where discussions focused on strengthening AI readiness and building structured pathways for students. SARAS AI Institute has offered the programs at highly subsidized rates, with the University bearing the cost as part of its student upskilling commitment.

IKGPTU officials added that the initiative also aligns with the State Government’s encouragement to universities to modernize academic programs in tune with emerging industry needs and is expected to support stronger placement outcomes for PTU graduates.
