IKGPTU Hosts Expert Lecture on Intellectual Property Rights

Kapurthala, September 15, 2026: The Department of Food Science & Technology, I.K. Gujral Punjab Technical University (IKGPTU), organized a virtual expert lecture on “Protecting Innovation, Empowering the Future” to sensitise students about the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).
Organized under the mentorship of Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Arvind Kumar Bansal, the programme also acknowledged the guidance and support of Registrar Dr. Navdeepak Sandhu and Dean Academics Prof. (Dr.) NeelKanth Grover.
The session was delivered by Dr. Jaspreet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Panjab University, Chandigarh, who provided insights into patents, copyrights, trademarks, and geographical indications. She emphasized the significance of protecting research innovations and translating them into meaningful applications.
Addressing the participants, Dr. Gazal Sharma, Head of the Department of Food Science & Technology, highlighted that IPR awareness is essential for quality research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. She encouraged students to document, protect, and translate their innovative ideas into societal and commercial outcomes.
The interactive session witnessed enthusiastic participation from BSc FT, B.Voc FT, and MSc FT students, who engaged with the expert on topics such as patentability, ownership, copyright, and protection of research-based products and processes.
The programme reinforced IKGPTU’s commitment to fostering an innovation-driven and entrepreneurship-oriented culture among students and young researchers.
