Jalandhar, June 4, 2015: In a letter issued from Punjab Government demanding from IK Gujral Punjab Technical University to transfer Rs 100 crore from its corpus fund to second state technical university in Bathinda, University’s Mulazim front staged dharna today and demanded from Government to roll back its decision.
Punjab Government is all set to transfer half of the corpus amount of university and has demanded Rs. 100 crore as first installment for an initial establishment of Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University in Bathinda. Opposing this, IKG-PTU Mulazim Front protested in the main campus today by staging dharna. University employees are protesting by working with black batches for last two days.
Kamlesh Kumar, President of the front stated that Punjab Government has transferred partially completed buildings/land for establishment of 19 PITs on which huge expenditure is being done and to fulfill all the present commitments, IKG-PTU will be requiring additional funds than the available funds. No fund can be spared from the corpus available with the university.
He further said, “University is in its academic establishment mode. 50 percent work of new buildings in its main campus is completed and the academic sessions are expected to be operational from next academic year, for this, additional funds are also required.”
Other members of the front addressed during the dharna stated, “Employees of any institutions require security as well as various benefits. A lot of work is yet to be done in this regard. Funds are needed for the same. If the funds would be transferred to the second state technical university then there will be fund crises for employees as they will not get their salaries on time which would further create chaos in the academic environment.”
Hence the front demanded from the Government to roll back its decision immediately and requested to establish the second university on their own expenses.
