Kins of freedom fighters being honoured by IKG-PTU on I-Day.

Jalandhar, August 17, 2015: Giving tribute to the freedom fighters, I.K.Gujral Punjab Technical University celebrated Independence Day with great fervor on Saturday. Initiating the event, IKG-PTU Dean RIC Dr. A.P. Singh who was also the Chief Guest, unfurled the National Flag along with other officers and employees of the University. 
A cultural program was organized by the students of Punjab Institute of Management (PIM) and Punjab Institute of Technology (PIT). Students performed dance numbers as well as sung patriotic songs on this occasion.
The welcome speech has been delivered by Registrar IKG- PTU Dr. Amanpreet Singh.
Chief Guest Dr. A.P. Singh stressed on the real meaning of Independence and how tough it was to attain the goal at that time. He said, “Our freedom fighters have fought for us courageously during the war time. They have actually taught us the real meaning of freedom. Independence means when an individual is full of solutions and is living a happy as well as satisfactory life. It means when he is living happily in his family as well as in society without having any hatred feeling amongst anyone.”
Congratulating everyone on Independence Day Registrar Dr. Amanpreet said, “I heartily congratulate every Indian today for being a part of an independent nation. We shall salute all the freedom fighters who fought to provide us rid out of the British rule. But the sad part is that still today we are not completely Independent. We are following certain policies/Acts and rules which were made during British era.”
University this time took an initiative in honoring the kins of freedom fighters. The families of Martyr Deputy Commandant (BSF) Mohinder Raj of Kapurthala, who was killed by militants in 1999 and the other Martyr Sapper Daljeet Singh of Jalandhar was killed in mine blast in the year 1999, were honored and paid tribute.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Dr. S S Walia Director Student Facilitation Center said, “The time has come when youth must come forward. Youth is the future of nation and is quite powerful in ideas and actions. As far as education sector is concerned then young universities must initiate taking fruitful steps in order to bring out the disciplined human beings, besides making them engineers and doctors etc."
The event was graced by students, faculty as well as officers and employees of IKG-PTU. The event was successfully concluded by standing for the National Anthem.
