Bathinda, December 2, 2022: The ICSSR-sponsored ten days course on Research Methodology in Social Sciences concludes at the Central University of Punjab on Wednesday. The Department of Education at the Central University of Punjab successfully organized this programme from November 21–30, 2022, under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari.

The ten days course was formally inaugurated by Prof. Jagbir Singh, Chancellor of the University, in the presence of Prof. Kapil Kapoor, Former Professor of English, Concurrent Professor, Special Centre for Sanskrit Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University; and Dr. Uma Shankar Pachauri, General Secretary, Bhartiya Shikshan Mandal.

During this programme, fifteen eminent personalities including Prof. Girishwar Misra, Professor (Retd.) and Former Vice-Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Wardha; Prof. Paramjit Singh Judge, GNDU, Amritsar; Prof. D.K. Verma, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University of Social Sciences, Indore; Prof. Sudhir Kumar, Panjab University, Chandigarh and others, from social sciences disciplines from across the country, shared their hands-on experience on research methodology with researchers. Apart from CUPB research scholars, a total of 30 external M.PhiI./Ph.D./PDF scholars from across the country, representing 17 states and 3 UTs, participated in this workshop.

The Chief Guest of the Valedictory Session was Dr. Govind Singh Saun, Consultant (Research Senior), ICSSR, New Delhi. During this session, participants shared their experiences of this workshop.

In his valedictory address, Dr. G.S. Saun, the Chief Guest, emphasized the need to conduct quality research in higher education by adopting a multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach, as envisaged in NEP 2020. He inspired researchers to produce original research work with novelty and innovation that could be beneficial for society and contribute to actualizing the mission of AtmaNirbhar Bharat.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, highlighted the indigenous research methodology in which Shravan, Manan and Nidhidhayasan play an important role in the process of learning. He stated that the hallmark of the education system should be to develop critical thinking, creativity and a lifelong learning approach among learners. He expressed his firm belief that this programme would have helped the participants acquaint themselves with the desired skills to conduct quality research and find innovative solutions.

The programme commenced with the welcome address by Dr. Shankar Lal Bika, Course Director and Dean, School of Education. While presenting the workshop report and highlighting the outcomes of this workshop, he also expressed his gratitude towards the esteemed speakers for enlightening the participants during this 10 days workshop. Towards the end, Dr. Jublee Padmanabhan, gave a formal vote of thanks.
