ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana gave licensing of Makhana popping machine to Haryana based firm

Ludhiana, April 15, 2025: In recent years price of makhana has increased due to increase in demand from domestic as well as foreign markets. Makhana processing is popularizing day by day and has a very bright potential. Makhana is presently processed by traditional method which is laborious, time, consuming and causes injuries to the processor’s hands as it involves handling of hot roasted nuts manually. To address these challenges, ICAR-CIPHET developed a mechanized makhana popping technology, which offers a safer, more efficient, and scalable alternative to the traditional method. Research team comprised of Dr. S. N. Jha & Dr. R.K. Vishwakarma. This prominent technology was transferred to Mr. Varun Gupta, Director M/s BlackNut AgriFood Machinery Pvt. Ltd., Haryana who has approached ICAR-CIPHET for licensing of this technology. Dr. Ranjeet Singh, I/c ITMU has facilitated the event and Dr. Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-CIPHET, awarded the certificate of licensing with agreement and assured the licensee of continued support for establishing and scaling up the venture.
