According to police sources, the accused, identified as Sunny Kumar, allegedly attacked his wife, Kalti Devi, with a sharp-edged weapon while she was asleep in the early hours of Monday. The assault proved fatal, and the victim died on the spot.
Kalti Devi is survived by three children—two sons and a daughter—making the incident particularly tragic.
Preliminary information suggests that the accused had gone out on Sunday night with his brother in connection with a spiritual healing ritual (jhad-phoonk). Later, around midnight, he brought his wife to his brother’s house in Kutahan village, where they stayed overnight.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:30 AM, when, according to reports, Sunny Kumar attacked his wife with an axe while other family members were asleep in adjacent rooms. Hearing the disturbance, his brother rushed to the scene and, upon discovering the crime, immediately informed the police.

Confirming the incident, Superintendent of Police Ashok Ratan said that the accused has been arrested and that the police are investigating all possible angles to determine the motive behind the crime.
Notably, the couple’s young daughter was reportedly sleeping beside her mother at the time of the incident. Meanwhile, relatives of the deceased, who arrived from Barot, have demanded the strictest punishment for the accused.
