Jalandhar, August 13, 2025: India witnessed a unique moment in sporting history as the First Open Pan Asian International Boomerang Championship unfolded over two exhilarating days at Lovely Professional University (LPU). The event brought together participants and spectators from Australia, Germany, Japan, Indonesia, and India, blending world-class competition with cultural exchange and a shared passion for innovation.
Boomerang throwing, an age-old sport with roots in human ingenuity, has transformed into a technical and diverse competition, featuring disciplines such as accuracy, trick catch, fast catch, aussie round, MTA, and endurance. At LPU, the sport came alive with unmatched energy, as athletes demonstrated precision, skill, and creativity in every throw.
The grand championship was graced by eminent personalities, including Col. Dr. Rashmi Mittal, Pro-Chancellor of LPU, Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor of LPU, Mr. Vivek Montrose, Founder & President of the International Boomerang Association (IBA), Mr. Roger Perry ( Australia), Vice President of the International Federation of Boomerang Associations (IFBA), Mr. Anuj Pandey, former member of the Ministry of Labour and businessman, Mr. Ashish Jindal, mentor, IBA, and Mr. Ravi Kant Mishra, a steadfast advocate for the association.
In the address, Col. Dr. Rashmi Mittal remarked, “Boomerang is more than a sport, it is a symbol of unity, creativity, and perseverance. Hosting this championship at LPU reflects our belief in bringing the world together through shared passions and in providing platforms where athletes from all backgrounds can excel.
The competition witnessed outstanding performances. In the Overall Championship, Haruki from Japan emerged as the champion, followed by Thomas from Germany as first runner-up and Fahmi from Indonesia as second runner-up. In the Women’s Category, Vinodini from India secured the top position, with Bhavna taking second place and Kavya finishing third.
The atmosphere throughout the championship was one of excitement, camaraderie, and mutual respect, with athletes exchanging techniques, traditions, and stories from their respective countries.
