Health Minister Aarti Rao Conducts Surprise Inspection of PGIMS OPD; orders to constitute a Committee to Address Shortage of Medicines
Rohtak, April 4, 2026: Haryana's Health Minister, Aarti Singh Rao, arrived on Saturday afternoon to conduct a surprise inspection of the Chaudhary Ranbir Singh OPD at PGIMS, Rohtak. Arriving at the OPD alone and without prior intimation to anyone, the Health Minister first inspected the rooms housing the CT scan and MRI machines, which operate under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode via 'Health Map.' She issued strict directives that patients must be provided with their MRI and CT scan reports within one day—rather than the current three to four days—to ensure that their treatment can commence as quickly and as timely as possible, given that physicians base their treatment plans on these very reports.
Later, the Health Minister reviewed the functioning of the X-ray Department and expressed satisfaction with the promptness with which X-rays were being conducted for patients there. While inspecting the Orthopedics Department's OPD, she expressed displeasure upon observing the large crowd gathered outside Room No. 75 for blood sample collection. She issued orders to the concerned officials to ensure that patients receive prompt attention and treatment so they do not have to endure long waits in queues. She further directed that wherever surplus lab technicians and data entry operators are available, they should be deployed to the OPD area.
The Health Minister also inspected the restrooms; noting a lack of cleanliness, she issued strict instructions to officials that the restrooms must be cleaned three times daily during OPD hours. Interacting with the patients, Health Minister Aarti Singh Rao inquired about the quality of treatment and care being received at PGIMS. One patient mentioned that they were unable to obtain a significant number of prescribed medicines. In response, PGIMS officials stated that approximately 200 different types of medicines are currently available at the institute. Reacting to this, the Health Minister ordered the constitution of a committee to investigate why patients are being provided with only 200 types of medicines here, given that the government makes over 500 different types of medicines available.
Subsequently, the Health Minister also inspected the OPDs of the Gynecology, Super-specialty, and Surgery departments. She stated that she would soon return to PGIMS at any time to conduct a surprise inspection of the wards.
Speaking to journalists, the Health Minister affirmed that her priority is to provide high-quality medical treatment to patients with promptness, and she would spare no effort to achieve this. Dean of Academic Affairs Dr. M.G. Vashishth, Medical Superintendent Dr. Kundan Mittal, and DMS Dr. Sukhbir Singh were also present on the occasion.
