Rohtak, October 24, 2026: Haryana Governor Prof. Ashim Kumar Ghosh called for ensuring regular food supplies, medicines, healthcare and education for children of persons affected by leprosy, stressing that their dignity and rehabilitation must be a collective responsibility.

Inaugurating newly constructed rooms at Gandhi Leprosy Ashram in Rohtak, the Governor said the government, administration and society must work together to improve the living conditions of residents. Haryana First Lady Mitra Ghosh was also present.

Taking note of shortages faced by residents, Ghosh said he would urge the state government to restore discontinued ration supply arrangements. He directed officials to ensure regular health check-ups, timely treatment and adequate medicines, besides better educational opportunities for children living at the ashram.

He also called for ending social discrimination and misconceptions about leprosy, asserting that those affected by the disease had an equal right to live with dignity and participate in society.

Emphasising the need for sustainable rehabilitation, the Governor said providing buildings alone was not enough; proper maintenance, sanitation, essential facilities and livelihood opportunities were equally important. He urged social organisations, local residents and donors to support the ashram and help residents become self-reliant.

Appreciating the Red Cross Society’s role, Ghosh called for effective management of leprosy centres across Haryana and assured that financial support would be pursued to help it discharge additional responsibilities.

He also stressed expanding free ambulance services across all districts to ensure timely medical assistance to poor and needy people during emergencies.

Referring to the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, the Governor said development would be meaningful only when its benefits reached the most vulnerable sections, with equal access to healthcare, education, social security and a dignified life.

Deputy Commissioner Satbir Singh, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Rajpurohit, Red Cross Vice-Chairman Ankush Miglani, Haryana Leprosy Federation president S.N. Tyagi and other officials and social representatives were present.
