Rohtak, October 24, 2026: The Haryana Union of Working Journalists (HUWJ) has expressed concern over the delay of more than 18 months in implementing the Haryana government’s announcement to provide cashless medical treatment to journalists. The union has urged the state government to implement the scheme without further delay.
A delegation led by HUWJ state president Manmohan Kathuria met Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini during his recent visit to Rohtak and submitted a memorandum seeking the early rollout of the facility. Kathuria said the Chief Minister assured the delegation that the scheme would be implemented soon and directed the concerned officials to take necessary action.
Kathuria said the government was already providing cashless healthcare facilities to a large section of the population, making the delay in extending the benefit to journalists difficult to understand. The absence of an official notification so far has caused resentment among media professionals, he added.
Highlighting the demanding nature of journalistic work, Kathuria said journalists often work round the clock, cover events late into the night and follow irregular schedules, which can adversely affect their health. Their hectic work commitments also make routine medical check-ups difficult.
He urged the government to prioritise journalists’ health and welfare and issue the necessary notification to implement the cashless medical treatment facility at the earliest.
