Hari Ram Gupta Memorial Lecture 

Chandigarh, March 17, 2023: The Department of History, Panjab University, Chandigarh organised Hari Ram Gupta Memorial Lecture with the main speaker Heeraman Tiwari, Chairperson, CHs, JNU, New Delhi on the theme ‘Communication, Debate and Texts: An Intellectual History of Ancient India’ in which he dwelled on the various paradigm of communication in ancient India where the dialogue wiould always start with a mundane conversation which would then elevated to higher level of philosophy. He gave example of Nichiketa-Yama, Yajnavalykya -Gargi and many other texts which started with simple dilemna or questions in material world. Even great texts like Mahabharta and Ramayana reflects same structure. Secondly it is Satya which become the core value and dialogue would aim to contextualise the past to understand the presnet and find vision of future. The common thread and repeated recourse to the earlier text while also highlighting emotional aspects in human life. 

Prof Sudhir Kumar, who chaired the session and praised the speaker, while discussing Indian centric knowledge system. Dr. Jasbir Singh introduced the theme and life of Prof Hari Ram Gupta. 

Dr Priyatosh Sharma, chairperson , formally welcomed and introduced the speaker. 

Dr Ashish Kumar offered votes of Thanks. 

The lecture was attended by around hundred particpants including senior faculty members of PU.
