Harbhajan Halwarvi’s Literary Legacy Returns to His Alma Mater SCD Govt. College, Ludhiana

Ludhiana, September 19, 2026: The literary legacy of eminent Punjabi poet, thinker, critic and journalist Late Harbhajan Singh Halwarvi, alumnus of SCD Government College, Ludhiana, has returned to his alma mater with the presentation of two of his significant books—'Niji Khat’ and ‘Bodhikta De Pasaar’—to the College’s Alumni Authored Books Shelves. The books were gifted by his family through his younger brother and fellow alumnus, Dr Navtej Singh Halwarvi, a reputed historian with the initiative of the Alumni Association. The occasion was attended by Alumni Association executive members Navdeep Singh, former Director, FM Gold, AIR; Prof. P. D. Gupta; DGM (Retd.) K. B. Singh; Prof. Geetanjli Pabreja; Prof. Nidhi Sharma; Prof. Ira; Prof. Mukesh Kumar; Ashok Dheer; Dalbir Singh Mauli; Prof. Rashmi; Dr Poonam Sapra; and Prof. Lakhwinder
Halwarvi studied M.Sc. Mathematics at SCD Government College and later pursued postgraduate studies in Punjabi. He subsequently joined journalism and became Editor of the prestigious daily Punjabi Tribune. His contribution as a poet, writer, critic, thinker and journalist remains an important part of modern Punjabi literary and intellectual life. Principal Gursharanjit Singh Sandhu described the books as a proud possession of the College and thanked the Halwarvi family and the Alumni Association for facilitating their presentation. He said such contributions enrich the institution’s intellectual heritage and connect present students with distinguished alumni.
Speaking on the occasion, Brij Bhushan Goyal, Org Sec of the association said Niji Khat provides a rare window into the intellectual, personal and social milieu of its time. The profound correspondence exchanged by Halwarvi with scholars, writers and other eminent personalities, along with his editorials written during his tenure at Punjabi Tribune and other prominent newspapers, makes their preservation a landmark effort.’Bodhikta De Pasaar’  presents another important dimension of Halwarvi’s intellectual legacy, bringing together writings on poetry, songs, ghazals, travel, Punjabi literary figures, books, interviews, personalities and contemporary issues. Its breadth reflects his depth of understanding, clarity of thought, intellectual courage and social sensitivity. He particularly appreciated Dr Navtej Singh Halwarvi for preserving and editing this valuable material, describing it as an important contribution to safeguarding Punjab’s literary and intellectual heritage, said Goyal.
The presentation was more than an addition to the College shelves it marked the return of an alumnus’s intellectual legacy to the institution where his academic journey began, making it accessible to students, teachers, researchers and future generations said Prof P K Sharma in his message.
