Bhopal, June 25 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Congress President Kamal Nath said on Sunday that he has received at least half-a-dozen biodata of ticket aspirants for each Assembly constituency and picking one among them is becoming tough.

Madhya Pradesh will go the polls at the end of this year.

Kamal Nath also made it clear that the selection of candidates will be done on the basis of survey reports, which will be based on views of local residents and party workers.

Speaking to reporters at the party headquarters here, the former Chief Minister said that the Congress is conducting an independent survey which will be of help in candidate selection for the year-end Assembly polls.

More than 3,500 persons have applied for 230 Assembly seats, as per sources.

“We are carrying out independent surveys. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) is also carrying out a survey at its level,” Kamal Nath said.

He said sometimes some common or adverse factors come up in different surveys and in such a situation, importance is given to the opinion of the people of that particular area.

"We are not going to do anything without considering the opinion of local people. Surveys are indicative but, at the end, the local people’s opinion matters as they have to fight on the ground,” he added.

Kamal Nath also asserted that no ticket distribution process can be completed without consensus as everyone who wants to contest the polls feels he will surely win.

The elections will be held between the ruling BJP and the people of Madhya Pradesh, he added.
