Goyal elected president of Masters Games Federation

Chandigarh: Dinesh Goyal, who is the chief of the Chandigarh unit of the Masters Games, has been unanimously elected president of the Masters Games Federation during the elections held in Chandigarh on Thursday. Punjab unit’s chief Inderjit Singh has been unanimously elected as the secretary of the national unit for the next four years.  

The house authorised both newly elected president and secretary to select the team for the remaining posts of the executive committee.     

The elections were conducted by the returning officer Punjab and Haryana High Court retired justice AN Jindal.

Thirty seven representatives from across the country, representing 18 state and union territory units participated in the elections.   

Before the elections, the Annual General Body Meeting of the Masters Games Federation was held and it was decided to organise the fourth edition of the national games in Chandigarh mid this year.

There will be 27 sports disciplines during the national meet and the players above 30 years will participate in the championships. The selected players will represent the country in the World Masters Games to be held in Japan next year.  

“The main motive of the Masters Games Federation is to promote the sports in veteran categories and on regular basis we will be holding clinic to encourage more and more players to join the sporting movement,” says Goyal. “We had already organised three national championships and in the previous edition of the championship, which was held in Baroda, Gujarat, there were participation of over 4000 athletes. Indian team had participated in two international championships.”
