Chandigarh, August 17, 2025: Punjab BJP leader and former MLA Arvind Khanna today came down heavily on the AAP government over the cancellation of road projects worth Rs 800 crore, terming it a “serious failure” that had brought “national embarrassment” to the state.

Khanna said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had sanctioned the upgradation of 64 roads and the construction of 38 bridges across Punjab to improve connectivity and boost infrastructure. However, the state government, he alleged, failed to initiate the tendering process within the stipulated time, leading to the withdrawal of the projects.

“The cancellation clearly shows the lack of seriousness of the Mann government. It is a huge setback for Punjab, where better road infrastructure is urgently required for trade, agriculture and rural development,” Khanna said.

He further alleged that the CM Bhagwant Mann-led government’s “indifferent approach” had earlier led to the stalling of rural development funds worth over Rs 7,000 crore. “This reflects the government’s insensitivity towards the needs of the common people,” he added.

Referring to the recent floods in several districts, Khanna said the government had failed to put in place preventive measures, as a result of which hundreds of villagers were rendered homeless and crops worth several crores destroyed. He added that link roads in rural areas were already in a state of disrepair and the floods had worsened their condition.

“Instead of addressing these urgent issues, the government is busy indulging in divisive politics and hollow claims,” he remarked. Khanna asserted that the people of Punjab wanted peace, stability and development, and would not tolerate “lawlessness and misgovernance” any longer.
