Goat farming possesses immense potential as a catalyst for self-employment – Vice Chancellor

Ludhiana, July 22, 2025: Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, concluded a week-long Goat Farming Training Programme, which drew 15 enthusiastic participants including 11 men and 4 women.
Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice Chancellor affirmed the university’s unwavering commitment to supporting livestock farmers and advancing the livestock sector through every possible avenue. He emphasized that goat farming possesses immense potential as a catalyst for self-employment and sustainable income generation, particularly among rural youth.
At the valedictory ceremony, Dr. R. S. Grewal, Director of Extension Education, urged the participants to embrace goat farming not just as a traditional occupation, but as a strategic and forward-looking solution for enhancing employment and achieving self-sufficiency.
Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Course Director and Head of the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, informed that the training covered a wide spectrum of essential topics, including housing systems, nutritional management, reproductive health, veterinary care, disease control, biosecurity measures, zoonotic risk mitigation, and effective marketing strategies.
Master Nishan Singh, a progressive farmer known for his integrated agri-livestock ventures, generously imparted his extensive field experience. His practical insights into contemporary goat-rearing techniques significantly enhanced the participants’ learning experience.
Dr. R.K. Sharma, Director of the Regional Research and Training Centre, Talwara, cum coordinator has delivered insightful lectures and offered invaluable recommendations, drawing from his extensive expertise, which greatly benefitted the participants. The program was meticulously organized by Dr. Ravdeep Singh, alongside Student Coordinator, Gursimranjit Singh, whose dedicated efforts ensured the smooth execution and overall success of the event.
Participants, especially women trainees expressed overwhelming appreciation for the initiative of delivering free of charges training to female participants. The university is going to organize a Pig farming course from 4th to 8th August, 2025 at its Ludhiana campus for which application forms are available at farmers’ Information centre or can be downloaded from university website www.gadvasu.in.
