GHSC-10 Organises Session on “Transcending Stereotypes: Towards Inclusion and Equality”

Chandigarh, September 12, 2025: Government Home Science College, Chandigarh, in collaboration with Humsafar Trust, Mumbai and Saksham Welfare Society, Chandigarh, organised a sensitisation and awareness session on “Transcending Stereotypes: Towards Inclusion and Equality” on Thursday.

The resource persons for the session were Ms. Nilofer, representing Humsafar Trust with over 20 years of experience in the field, and Mx.Amanat, President of Saksham Welfare Society, Chandigarh, whose work focuses on family planning and HIV prevention. They shared valuable insights on gender inclusion and equality, while also drawing attention to the challenges faced by transgender persons. Furthermore, they highlighted the facilities, resources and support systems available to the transgender community through their organisations. The session witnessed the enthusiastic participation of more than 50 attendees who actively engaged in discussions and expressed their willingness to contribute towards building an inclusive society.

Principal Prof. Sudha Katyal lauded the initiative of the Department of Human Development, the Transgender Cell and the NSS Wing for organising such a meaningful event. She emphasised that true education goes beyond classrooms, it lies in sensitising young minds to values of equity, empathy and inclusivity. The college makes conscious efforts by breaking stereotypes and embracing diversity and contributes towards creating a society that respects the dignity of every individual. She further urged students to become agents of change and carry forward the message of acceptance and equality in their daily lives.
