Government Home Science College organised various workshops during ongoing TEX-STYLE week. On the third day, an interactive workshop on Natural Dyeing was conducted.

Chandigarh, September 30, 2023: Government Home Science College organised various workshops during ongoing TEX-STYLE week. On the third day, an interactive workshop on Natural Dyeing was conducted. 

The resource person for the workshop was Pooja Jain. The workshop focused on  the fascinating world of natural dyes along with exploration of their origins in plants, invertebrates and minerals. 

During the workshop, students were enlightened about the rich spectrum of colors derived from roots, berries, bark, leaves & wood and how these dyes could be bonded using iron and alum. 

The workshop also emphasized the eco-friendly and biodegradable nature of these remarkable textiles. More than 45 students actively participated. 

Furthermore, on the fifth day, another workshop on ‘Handloom Weaving’ was organised to familiarize students with the intricate weaving process. Jaswinder Pal Singh, a weaving instructor from NIIFT Mohali was the resource person. During the session, he demonstrated the Peg Warping technique using two-color yarns to create plaid fabric. The workshop also aimed to provide students with a step-by-step understanding of warping, denting &  weaving. 

In addition, Slogan Writing  Competition on theme ‘Khadi - A Sustainable Fabric’ was also conducted in which students participated enthusiastically, showcasing their creativity and passion for sustainability. 

Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal motivated the students to participate in workshops & take full advantage of practical exposure given to them through such workshops. She further highlighted that it will enhance their capabilities and entrepreneurial skills.
