Panchkula, August 29, 2021:  To commemorate the Diamond Jubilee year of India’s Independence, Panchkula-based Venus Remedies organised Freedom Run 2021 in Sector 5 here today. 

State Drugs Controller of Haryana and State Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) Joint Commissioner Mr Narender Kumar Ahooja flagged off the event at 5:30 am.

Held in the 5 km, 10 km and 21 km (half-marathon) categories, Freedom Run 2021, which also coincided with the National Sports Day, saw the participation of professional runners like Amar Singh Chauhan, a 79-year-old legendary distance runner who has won 81 gold medals in 92 marathons he has run across the world since 2012, and Kulpreet Brar, who conquered paralysis to emerge as a lively athlete four years ago.

Members of the Indian Medical Association and the Punjab and Haryana Bar Council were also among 200 people from all walks of life who participated in the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Akshansh Chaudhary, President, HR, Venus Remedies Ltd, said, “Our people are the biggest assets of our country and their health should be the topmost priority. They are well aware of their health needs and solutions to their everyday lifestyle-associated health problems. Freedom Run 2021 is an initiative to provide a platform to regular health enthusiasts to test their abilities and to beginners to get motivated and start their fitness transformation journeys today itself.”

Driving home the message of keeping fit through participation in a variety of sports, the chief guest at Freedom Run 2021, Manjit Singh Chahal, a 2018 Asian Games gold medallist in the 800m race, encouraged youngsters to adopt a more active lifestyle, especially in view of the pandemic and the work-from-home situation that is leading to a sedentary lifestyle.

Chahal felicitated the winners, including Amit Kumar, Aditya Ahuja and Pradipta Kumar in the 21 km, Lovkesh Mittal, Sachin Khattar and Mohit Soni in the 10 km and Shourya Pant, Vijendra Sangwan and Gaurav Kandoi in the 5 km categories at the closing ceremony and advised them to take small yet decisive steps towards their fitness goals consistently.
