Former MDU Vice-Chancellor Brigadier O.P. Chaudhary passed away
The mortal remains of former MDU Vice-Chancellor Brigadier (Retd.) O.P. Chaudhary (VSM) were consigned to flames in Sonipat on Saturday. Brigadier Chaudhary passed away in Sonipat late Friday night.

His grandson Amardeep Chaudhary performed the last rites. His son Dr. Inderjit Singh, daughter Veena Rathi, son-in-law Col. Suresh Rathi and other family members attended the cremation.
Brigadier Chaudhary, a decorated officer of the Army Education Corps (AEC), was accorded military honours. Lt. Col. Abhishek Singh Tomar laid a wreath on behalf of the Indian Army.
Representing MDU, Director Public Relations Sunit Mukherjee and Director of Sports Kultaj Singh paid their last respects. Former MDU Registrar Prof. Khajan Singh Sangwan, Prof. Satpal Singh Dahiya, retired Professor Dr. Ranbir Singh Gulia, retired Executive Engineer Baljit Singh, former Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor Umed Singh Dalal, former MDUTA president Dr. Sombir Rathi, former Non-Teaching Employees Association president Balraj Singh, retired employees Maha Singh Hooda and Hemchand Deshwal, and Dr. Deepak Lathwal of Government College, Sampla, were among those who joined the final journey. Hundreds of people attended the cremation.
Brigadier O.P. Chaudhary served as Vice-Chancellor of MDU from February 23, 1991 to February 22, 1994 and made significant contributions to the academic development of the university.
According to MDU Director, Public Relations, Sunit Mukherjee, several new departments, including Public Administration, Physical Education, Statistics, and Defence and Strategic Studies, were established during Brigadier Chaudhary's tenure. The university also witnessed significant expansion of its infrastructure, including the Faculty House, Dr. Ambedkar Hall, swimming pool, Directorate of Distance Education building and other academic buildings.
He also ensured recruitment to teaching and non-teaching posts during his tenure. A Commonwealth conference of the Faculty of Law was also organised during his tenure as Vice-Chancellor.
Brigadier Chaudhary also served as Chairman of the Board of School Education Haryana from 2003 to 2006. He was Commander of the Rashtriya Indian Military College and Director of Motilal Nehru Sports School, Rai.
Expressing condolences on behalf of the university community, MDU Director, Public Relations, Sunit Mukherjee said Brigadier O.P. Chaudhary's demise was an irreparable loss to the field of education.
