Former Haryana CM Hooda demands to roll back the fee hikes for medical and paramedical courses; slams BJP Govt. over Massive irregularities in the HTET exam
Former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda stated that the BJP is consistently hiking fees in the education sector, presiding over paper leaks during recruitment drives, scams in the name of development, cover-ups in investigations, and a rising debt burden on the economy.
Rohtak, July 6, 2026: Former Haryana Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda stated that the BJP is consistently hiking fees in the education sector, presiding over paper leaks during recruitment drives, scams in the name of development, cover-ups in investigations, and a rising debt burden on the economy.
“The government has once again dropped a 'fee-hike bomb' on students. It has issued a decree to fleece the youth who aspire to become doctors, nurses, and pharmacists. The government has imposed a massive hike of up to 400% in fees for medical and paramedical courses at the University of Health Sciences, Rohtak (UHSR), effective from August 1st,” he said.
“The government has made it clear that it intends to turn the education system into a system of exploitation by drastically increasing late fees and penalties. The BJP must withdraw this decision,” he added.
Talking to media persons at his local D-Park residence, Matu Ram Bhawan, Hooda highlighted the rampant irregularities in the HTET exam. He noted complaints ranging from the distribution of incorrect OMR sheets and wrong question papers to the distribution of unsealed question papers.
“It appears that the BJP government is not conducting exams but is playing a cruel joke on the candidates. There were instances of incorrect paper distribution, flaws in paper setting, mismatches between the serial numbers of OMR sheets and question papers, and errors in the language of questions suggesting the entire paper had been drafted by a novice,” he said.
Former CM Hooda demanded an impartial inquiry into all the irregularities surrounding the HTET, a hearing for the grievances raised by candidates, and strict action against those responsible.
The Leader of the Opposition stated that while irregularities are plaguing recruitment exams for teachers in the state, 16 percent of teaching posts remain vacant; specifically, 16,435 out of 1,01,499 sanctioned posts are unfilled. Yet, instead of filling these vacancies, the government is preoccupied with exam-related scandals.
Expressing concern over the state's mounting debt, Hooda noted that the total debt accumulated between the state's formation in 1966 and 2014 stood at ₹60,000–70,000 crore. However, under the BJP government, this figure has surged to ₹5.50 lakh crore between 2014 and 2026. In effect, the BJP has plunged Haryana into debt from head to toe, following the philosophy of Charvaka: “borrow and consume ghee" (live for the moment without regard for the future).
Talking about the endless series of scams occurring in the state, the former Chief Minister pointed out that yet another instance of a paddy procurement scam has surfaced in Karnal. “Similarly, one scam after another is coming to light in the banking sector. Yet, as always, the government is attempting to cover up the entire matter. Leaving aside banks, exams, and crops, this is a government under whose watch even the offerings made at the Lord Ram temple have been embezzled,” he said.
Former CM Hooda reiterated that the investigation into the Ram Mandir theft case must be conducted under the supervision of a sitting judge to ensure that no guilty person escapes and no innocent person is falsely implicated.
“Successive revelations in this case are hurting the sentiments of millions of devotees of Lord Ram. There is a universal demand that the culprits receive the swiftest and strictest possible punishment,” Hooda said.
