Ludhiana, July 21, 2026: Senior leader and former councillor Parminder Mehta on Tuesday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remove Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan from the Union Cabinet, alleging that such action was necessary to prevent a situation similar to developments witnessed in Nepal and Bangladesh.
Condemning the police lathi-charge on youth and students protesting at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, Mehta expressed strong resentment over the police action. He alleged that, acting on the directions of the Central Government, the police used force, including lathi-charge and tear gas, against protesters, including women and even doctors who had reached the site to provide medical assistance.
Mehta said the incident reminded him of the repressive methods used during the rule of the British East India Company. He further claimed that if the Union Government failed to learn from the youth protest and the Prime Minister did not remove the Education Minister from the Cabinet, the government could face consequences similar to those experienced by what he described as "dictatorial governments" in Nepal and Bangladesh.
