Sampla, April 7, 2026: Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, is set to tour agricultural markets (mandis) across the state. He commenced this initiative today at the mandi in Sampla, his own assembly constituency. Upon arriving, Hooda met with farmers, laborers, and commission agents (arhtiyas), and issued directives to the officials present.
He said that he has been continuously receiving reports from farmers across the state regarding the chaotic conditions prevailing in the mandis. He noted that, instead of procuring wheat and mustard crops, the BJP government is imposing new conditions on farmers on a daily basis.
“Farmers find themselves bogged down simply trying to fulfill requirements such as portal registration, gate passes, guarantors, biometric verification, tractor registration numbers, and general verification, forcing them to wait for several days just to sell their produce,” he said.
“Caught between the government's oppressive policies on one hand and the vagaries of the weather on the other, farmers are being crushed. Continuous unseasonal rains have damaged the standing crops. Under these circumstances, the government should immediately conduct a special crop damage assessment (Girdawari) and provide compensation to the farmers,” he said.
“However, instead of doing so, ministers within the government are making frivolous statements, claiming that the rainfall will actually lead to increased yields. The Opposition has demanded that the government provide a bonus to farmers for every quintal of produce,” he added.
The Leader of the Opposition asserted that the government must streamline operations within the mandis, eliminate unnecessary conditions, and ensure the procurement of crops as soon as possible. To ensure that the farmers' voices reach the government, he announced that he would personally tour mandis across the state to listen to the farmers' grievances.
While making this announcement, he released his initial tour itinerary. According to the schedule, following his visit to Sampla, he will visit Naraingarh, Sadhaura, Barara, and Ambala on Wednesday. On Thursday, Hooda will visit the grain markets in Pipli and Karnal to take stock of the arrangements there.
Additionally, he has instructed all Congress MLAs to visit the mandis (markets) in their respective constituencies to raise the voice of the farmers and alert the government and the administration.
