Former CM Hooda demands compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre for submerged land
Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has demanded a compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre as thousands of acres of land have been submerged in many districts of Haryana including Bhiwani, Rohtak, Hisar, Jind, Kurukshetra, Ambala as the government failed to make any arrangements for drainage of rain water.

Rohtak, August 5, 2025: Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has demanded a compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre as thousands of acres of land have been submerged in many districts of Haryana including Bhiwani, Rohtak, Hisar, Jind, Kurukshetra, Ambala as the government failed to make any arrangements for drainage of rain water.
“Due to this, farmers are facing huge losses. This time the crop has been ruined. There is no hope for the coming season as well. Therefore, to compensate the loss of the farmers, the government should get the Girdawari done soon and give compensation of Rs 50,000 per acre,” Hooda demanded.
“Today, not only villages and fields, but cities are also facing the problem of water logging as the government, as usual, did not make any arrangements before the rains. Neither the sewerage was cleaned in the cities, nor were drains cleaned in the villages. The sanitation system has also been completely destroyed. Today, heaps of garbage are seen everywhere, due to which the general public is facing the possibility of outbreak of water-borne ailments,” he stated.
Talking to media persons at Rohtak, Former CM said the Congress will raise many issues like agriculture, law and order, inflation, unemployment and increased collector rate in the upcoming monsoon session. “The BJP government has once again taken a decision to skyrocket the rates of land. The government has directly increased the collector rate by 10 to 145 percent, a rise of almost two and half times. Last year in December 2024 itself, the government had increased this rate drastically. Even then, the government had increased the collector rate by up to 250% in many places,” he added.
Speaking of outright deception of HKRN Employees, the former Chief Minister said the BJP had spread a lot of lies during the assembly elections. “The government had claimed that all the 1.25 lakh employees coming under the HKRN have been made permanent. Now no one will be able to remove them till retirement, but ever since the BJP has come to power for the third time, employees are being removed from employment continuously,” he stated.
“Now another notice has been issued to remove those who are working in HKRN for less than 5 years from their jobs. That’s why all employees are regretting today by trusting the promises of BJP and voting for BJP by getting misled by those false promises,” he added.
Hooda said the same fraud was done with ration card holders. “There has been a scam of crores of Rupees in Haryana regarding making BPL cards. The BJP first implemented Parivar Pehchan Patra (PPP) and cut the BPL cards of lakhs of people. Then as the elections came near, lakhs of BPL cards were made in a hurry. Cards were also made for those people who were ineligible for it,” he pointed out.
Not only this, he said, BJP spread confusion among the public during the elections that if Congress came to power, it would cancel these ration cards while making new cards. “In this fear and confusion, lakhs of people voted for BJP. Now BPL cards of thousands of families are being cancelled every day. Cards of those people are also being cancelled who are below the poverty line,” he added.
Hooda said the BJP government could not implement even one of its schemes. “This government is playing with the lives and health of the people through Ayushman Yojana also. It seems that this government has forgotten about Ayushman Yojana after starting it as the government owes Rs 650 crore to private hospitals. The government has not paid it for a long time. Due to this, Indian Medical Association (IMA) has refused to treat Ayushman card holders after 7th August,” he stated.
Expressing concern over the migration of industries from the state, Hooda said industries are continuously migrating from the state due to BJP's anti-Haryana policies. “Recently, news came that the plywood and utensils industry of Yamunanagar and textile industry of Panipat are on the verge of closure. Now the latest report has revealed that in the last 3 years, more than 90 rice mills of Haryana have also shifted to Madhya Pradesh. This is not only a shock for a state with an agriculture-based economy, but also a matter of shame for the government,” he pointed out.
“The biggest reason behind the migration of industries is the increasing crime in the state. Crime has become so out of control that today no one feels safe in the state. Haryana, which was number one in terms of development during the Congress government, has become number one in terms of crime today,” he said.
“This government has pushed the youth on the path of crime by depriving them of employment and education through its policies. Through its policies, the BJP government wants to close universities after government schools. That is why after increasing the fees heavily in every university, it has now started the process of closing courses,” he noted.
“More than 20 courses of CRSU, Jind alone have been closed. Earlier, the government had increased the fees heavily in GJU S&T, Hisar. The government has increased the fees of many courses including LLB by one and a half times from this year,” he added.
Hooda also expressed grief over the death of former Governor Satyapal Malik. He said he knew Malik since his days in student politics. “He was an outspoken leader. The loss that has been caused to Indian politics by his death cannot be filled,” he said. Paying tribute to the departed soul, he prayed to give strength to the family.
