Five new positive cases reported in Ludhiana district today

Ludhiana: Deputy Commissioner Mr Pradeep Kumar Agrawal today informed that five new cases have been reported in the district in last 24 hours. He informed that samples of 4421 person have been sent for testing till date, out of which report of 3867 samples was negative. He informed that at present, total number of positive cases from district Ludhiana is 141 while 40 patients belong to other districts. He said that 13 persons have been declared cured and six deaths have been reported.
    He further stated that the five positive cases reported today include one each from Doraha, village Kaddon in Tehsil Payal, Phase 2 Dugri, Miller Ganj and Haibowal Kalan areas of Ludhiana. He informed that at present, there are 122 active cases in the district. He said that samples of suspected persons who have completed 14 days under isolation/quarantine have also been sent for testing today and if their samples come out negative, their second sample would be taken after 24 hours and if both the samples are negative, they would be sent to their respective homes.
    Mr Agrawal further informed that till date, the District Administration has sent 36 trains to different states, including five trains that departed for different states today. He said that seven trains would depart tomorrow and eight trains on May 15, 2020. He said that as more than 7 lakh people from other states have applied to go to their home states from Ludhiana, the District Administration would be increasing the frequency of trains in coming days so that maximum number of people can be sent to their home states. He said that the Punjab government is also in touch with other states to allow travel by road.
    He urged the migrants to not fall prey to people claiming to take them to other states by road in lieu of hefty sums of money. He said that several states have sealed their borders and if they get caught, they would not only be sent back, but action would also be taken against them. He informed that at present, only travel by rail is allowed, and that too only through the District Administration.
    He informed that the Punjab government is providing facility of travel, food, water and pickup service from pickup points totally free of cost and people should not fall prey to any persons who promise to send them to their home states in lieu of money.
