First bicycle development meet and technology roadmap 2025 

Ludhiana: EEPC Indian in association with FICO organized the First meeting of Bicycle Development Council with the Vision of Technology Roadmap 2025 at Hyatt Regency Hotel, Ferozepur Road, Ludhiana. Government of India, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) for Light Engineering Industries established Bicycle Development Council for vision planning in design, engineering and manufacturing of lighter, smarter, value added, safe and faster premium Bicycles; which are, comparable with global standards for exports and domestic market.
 
Pradeep K. Aggarwal, Panel Convener, EEPC India set up the tone for the event and gave introduction on the current perspectives in Manufacturing & Exports in Bicycle Sector in India. He said cycle is no more a poor man’s vehicle, it is more of a fitness mantra now a days, so Indian manufactures need to look beyond the conventional models, market is huge & open for High End Products.
 
Dr. Guruprasad Mohapatra Chairman, Bicycle Development Council & Secretary, DPIIT (Department for Promotion of Industry & Internal Trade), Government of India along with Mr. Suresh Kumar, Scientist ‘F’, Office of Principal Scientific Advisor, Government of India discussed India’s strengths and opportunities to enhance its global share in bicycle manufacturing, also Government of India’s Initiatives & policy support to boost Bicycle Manufacturing and Exports.
 
Gurmeet Singh Kular, President, FICO (Federation of Industrial & Commercial Organization) nominated Member of Bicycle Development Council, discussed the current scenario of global bicycle industry and opportunity for Indian Bicycle Industry to Capture the Markets of Europe & America, due to slow down in the Chinese bicycle market. He said European & American bicycle markets are the primarily High-End Bicycle Markets, and further discussed the challenges to overcome for Indian manufacturers along with the areas where the governmental support is needed. He said by 2025, we will work to take the exports penetration of Indian bicycle industry from 0.08 % to 30 %, for that we need high end raw materials in India, which include Aluminum, Carbon Fibers, Titanium, Special Alloys, openly available for MSME Sector at competitive prices.
 
Dr. Hannes Neupert, Extra Energy, Germany along with Dr. Mo Hua Yang, Chief Technical Officer at Hi-Tech Energy, Taiwan discussed the Emerging Technology, Trends & New Market Opportunities – Global Perspectives on Bicycle Industry; and the scope for Indian bicycle manufacturers. Also discussed the Latest global trends in Bicycle manufacturing, Industry 4.0, E-Bikes and Advanced Manufacturing Technologies.
 
Dr. Dapinder K. Bakshi, Scientist & Coordinator SF & Innovation, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology along with Dr. Dhiraj K. Mahajan, IIT Ropar on Technological Value Addition Roadmap for Indian Bicycle & light e-mobility manufacturing; discussed the R&D Academia on various initiatives and available expertise and new Technology Development Projects.
 
Pradeep K. Aggarwal, Bicycle Panel Convener, EEPC India, moderated the Panel Discussion on Process Interventions (R&D Academia & Industry). The discussion was held on the topics Strengthening Raw Material Supply Chain– viz. Aluminum, Carbon Fibers, Titanium, Special Alloys; Emerging technology trends – Designing, Prototyping & 3D Printing; Other Technical Areas such as Laser cutting, CNC machining, Cold Forging, Dyes & Molds etc. Innovation trends in Bicycle & Light E-Mobility (Innovators, Startups, New Technologies etc.)
