FICO opposed increase in Labour Welfare Fund
The Punjab Cabinet has approved an increase in contributions to the Punjab Labour Welfare Fund, as reported on June 21, 2025. Both employees and employers will contribute more to the fund. Specifically, the employee's monthly contribution will rise from ₹5 to ₹10, while the employer's monthly contribution will double from ₹20 to ₹40.

Ludhiana, June 23, 2025: The Punjab Cabinet has approved an increase in contributions to the Punjab Labour Welfare Fund, as reported on June 21, 2025. Both employees and employers will contribute more to the fund. Specifically, the employee's monthly contribution will rise from ₹5 to ₹10, while the employer's monthly contribution will double from ₹20 to ₹40.
Federation of Industrial and Commercial Organization (FICO) opposed the increase in Labour Welfare Fund, and demanded immediate reversal.
Gurmeet Singh Kular President FICO said that when the employers and employees are paying Provident Fund and ESI, and Labour Welfare fund, then what is the need to increase the Labour Welfare fund, as this money has never been used for any welfare of the labour. This increase is just additional burden on both employers and employees of Punjab.
Manjinder Singh Sachdeva General Secretary FICO said that many crores of rupees, under the labour welfare fund is lying with the government, the government first need to spend that money on the welfare of the labour, increase in the fund comes later, once the lying funds are utilized. It is requested that the increase in labour fund must be rolled back with immediate effect.
