Chandigarh, February 27, 2026: On the occasion of National Science Day, the Department of Biophysics at Panjab University hosted a session under the Expert Talk Series, featuring Dr. Rajesh P. Ringe from NIPER Mohali, who delivered a lecture entitled “Decoding Virus Entry to Develop Vaccines.”
The session was coordinated by Dr. Tanzeer Kaur, Chairperson, Dept. of Biophysics, Panjab University, Chandigarh, and Dr. Pavitra Ranawat. The discussion focused on the precise mechanisms by which viruses enter host cells, which can lead to the development of more effective next-generation therapeutic strategies.
Dr. Ringe provided insights into the structural biology of viral infections, focusing on rational vaccine design strategies against HIV-1 and SARS-CoV-2. The lecture emphasised that glycoprotein heterogeneity and conformational flexibility remain major challenges in vaccine design.
The session concluded with an engaging discussion that highlighted how a deeper understanding of viral structure and entry mechanisms can directly lead to smarter vaccine design. By highlighting the power of cross-disciplinary research, the session left participants inspired to explore new frontiers in the development of advanced vaccines.
