Chandigarh, October 16, 2023: Prof. Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor Panjab University inaugurated the exhibition "Kasauli Art Centre 1976-1991" on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion she talked of the rich tradition of Indian art, the role of the built heritage of Chandigarh and the significance of this exhibition. Dr. B.N. Goswamy spoke of the importance of humanities as a discipline for the future of the world and underlined the urgent need to support the arts.

Dr. Anuradha Kapur spoke of the Kasauli Arts Centre (KAC) and the role of interdisciplinarity in art practice. From 1976 to 1984, the Kasauli Art Centre received a grant from the Museum of Fine Arts as a result of a collaboration set up between the Department of Fine Arts (now Department of Art History & Visual Arts) and the KAC by Dr. B.N.Goswamy and VivanSundaram. In exchange, artists participating in the art camps at Kasauli contributed an artwork each to the Museum. This collection forms the core of the exhibition, which is annotated by additional paintings, sculptures and sketches, photographs, artists’ correspondence, catalogues and hitherto unseen archival material.

The exhibition also includes scripts from the theatre making experiments, films on the international workshops made by NavinaSundaram and interviews with leading cultural practitioners produced especially for the exhibition.

The exhibition will be on display till December 4 this year.
