Ensuring Every Child Can See: Free Eye Check-Up Camp by DMC&H Under Project ROSHANI

A free pediatric eye screening camp was successfully held by DMC&H in collaboration with the Munde Ahmedgarh Welfare Club at Gandhi School, Ahmedgarh, under Project ROSHANI—a flagship community eye care initiative by Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H), Ludhiana.

Ensuring Every Child Can See: Free Eye Check-Up Camp by DMC&H Under Project ROSHANI

Ludhiana, July 18, 2025: A free pediatric eye screening camp was successfully held by DMC&H in collaboration with the Munde Ahmedgarh Welfare Club at Gandhi School, Ahmedgarh, under Project ROSHANI—a flagship community eye care initiative by Dayanand Medical College & Hospital (DMC&H), Ludhiana.
The camp, aimed at early detection of childhood eye disorders, was organized under the guidance of Dr. Priyanka Arora, Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, DMC&H, and coordinated by Mr. Rakesh Garg, President of the Welfare Club.
A total of 461 children were screened—261 from Gandhi School and 200 from surrounding villages. Among them 30 children were diagnosed with squint, 4 with cataract, 2 with ptosis (drooping eyelid) and 30 children were found to need corrective spectacles. Dr. Arora emphasized that early identification and timely intervention are crucial for preventing avoidable blindness and ensuring healthy visual development in children.
Sh. Bipin Gupta, Secretary, DMC&H Managing Society, stated: “Through Project ROSHANI, we aim to make specialized eye care accessible to every child, regardless of their background.” Dr. G.S. Wander, Principal, DMC&H, applauded the team for their dedication. He said that, these children will receive free treatment and spectacles under Project ROSHANI at DMC&H.
Senior faculty members Dr. Bishav Mohan, Chief Cardiologist, Dr Sandeep Sharma and Dr Ashwani K Chaudhary, Medical Suprintendents, Dr. Anurag Chaudhary, Professor & Head, Department of Community Medicine, and Dr. S.P. Singh, Incharge, Rural Health Centre, Pohir, also appreciated the initiative, calling it a significant step toward community-based pediatric healthcare. Dr. Gurvinder Kaur, Professor & Head, Department of Ophthalmology, DMC&H, praised the outreach effort and reiterated the department’s commitment to extending pediatric subspecialty services to underserved communities.
The camp was supported by a dedicated team including Shradha Chawla (a philanthropist), Optometrists Harsh, Gautam, Rahul, Neha, and Rooval. The field work to organize the camp was efficiently done by Gurjinder (Community Social Worker).
The event not only provided essential medical services but also raised awareness about eye health among families and educators—marking yet another impactful milestone for Project ROSHANI and DMC&H in their mission to ensure that every child can see.
