Ensure inducement and influence free polling at all 614 polling booths: DC to 44 Sector Magistrates

Nawanshahr, February 18, 2022: Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Vishesh Sarangal said that a strict surveillance has been put in place to ensure inducement and influence free polling while strict adherence of covid protocols at all 614 polling booths would be ensured on February 20 when voting would be held in three of constituencies falling under Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar.
Directing 44 sector magistrates deployed to keep close watch on voting at all 614 polling booths, Deputy Commissioner said that every sector magistrate would look after 14 to 15 polling booths and all polling parties including staff members from police and para-military forces would work under their command. He said that inspection powers have already been given to them and they would have to monitor each activity of the polling booths under their command and ensure maintenance of law and order situation in their respective areas.
He said that the sector officers have to ensure timely arrival of polling parties at polling booths a day before voting, the mock poll before commencement of actual poll, commencement of polls without any delay, deploying of force, presence or absence of polling agents, assist polling team inside polling station with procedures, reporting of voting percentage after every two hours through Punjab Poll Day Monitoring App (PPDMA) , the number of persons standing in a queue after 6 pm check the sealing of EVMs and preparation of papers by polling parties, escort EVMs with the polling team to collection centre.
Sarangal told that district administration is duty-bound to ensure smooth and hassle free polling process in the district. He said that elaborate arrangements have been made at every polling booths and added that no stone would be left unturned for ensuring free and fair elections.
