Poetry is the voice of Being. In the same vein, encouraging such literary pursuits, SCD Government College Ludhiana released a profound anthology of poems, “Sallies of Surreal Shades”, penned by Prof. Ashok Kapoor, an alumnus from the early 1960s, now in his eighties.

Ludhiana, February 23, 2026: Poetry is the voice of Being. In the same vein, encouraging such literary pursuits, SCD Government College Ludhiana released a profound anthology of poems, “Sallies of Surreal Shades”, penned by Prof. Ashok Kapoor, an alumnus from the early 1960s, now in his eighties.
Prof. Kapoor invited his former classmates as well as his own students from the college where he taught for 30 years. Principal Gursharanjit Singh Sandhu, while releasing the book, said that the college always needs inspirations for its students from alumni teachers like Prof. Kapoor. Present on the occasion were alumni Prof. Sagar Chand Jain, Harish Kaura, Manjula Jain, Prof. Rajinder Jain, Navdeep Singh, O.P. Verma, Manpreet Singh, Prof. Vijay Asdhir, and Brij Bhushan Goyal, Organizing Secretary of the Alumni Association. Prof. Amita Thamman, HOD of the PG English department, along with other teachers including Prof. Harmit Kaur, Prof. Preeti, Prof. Gurjit, Prof. Atinder Pandey, Prof. Suraj Kumar, Prof. Sarika, and Prof. Geetanjli Pabreja, also attended the brief ceremony.
Dr. Satish K. Kapoor, formerly a British Council Scholar, who wrote the foreword for the book, said, “Prof. Kapoor’s poetry is infused with energy; his words dance and soar to greater heights, connecting us with nature and calling for inner awakening.” On the occasion, Prof. Kapoor read out his poem “Memories of College Days.” He also donated an amount of twenty thousand rupees for the purchase of competition books for the college students.
Brij Bhushan Goyal remarked that there was much to learn from Prof. Kapoor’s creative poetry for students. Prof. P.K. Sharma added that the new generation and the older one should mingle in such celebrations of creative pursuits.
