Media Literacy is the need of the hour in this digital era. As enlightened citizens, and digital natives, we must know the tools of media literacy and fact checking to combat misinformation, disinformation, malinformation, and propaganda. This was stated by media expert and faculty member of Department of Journalism & Mass Communication of MDU, Sunit Mukherjee in a Special Lecture session organized in the Dept. of English & Foreign Languages on the occasion of International Literacy Day (ILD). Sunit Mukherjee delivered a detailed and interactive lecture on MEDIA LITERACY.

Rohtak, September 8, 2025: Media Literacy is the need of the hour in this digital era. As enlightened citizens, and digital natives, we must know the tools of media literacy and fact checking to combat misinformation, disinformation, malinformation, and propaganda. This was stated by media expert and faculty member of Department of Journalism & Mass Communication of MDU, Sunit Mukherjee in a Special Lecture session organized in the Dept. of English & Foreign Languages on the occasion of International Literacy Day (ILD). Sunit Mukherjee delivered a detailed and interactive lecture on MEDIA LITERACY.

Sunit Mukherjee, in his enlightening address, gave numerous examples of Fake News and devious disinformation campaigns for vested interest and malafide purposes. He said that students must check the veracity of information and news before sharing it on various social media handles. He said FACT- CHECK BEFORE FORWARDING & SHARING should be the Mantra of students. He stressed the need for critical thinking in this address. He shared information on fact checking websites in his lecture. Sunit Mukherjee administered the pledge of consuming and sharing information responsibly and building a healthier information eco- system in the country.

HOD Prof. Randeep Rana, in his address, highlighted the importance of media literacy in today’s world. He said that students of Humanities must develop skills of media literacy to be evolved citizens.
