Educational Visit of Khalsa College for Women Students to Harike Pattan Wetlands and Bird Sanctuary To Mark World Wetlands Day
The students of Department of Chemistry and Geography from Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana visited Harike Pattan Wetlands and Bird Sanctuary to mark the occasion of World Wetlands Day, observed annually on February 2.
Ludhiana, January 2, 2026: The students of Department of Chemistry and Geography from Khalsa College for Women, Civil Lines, Ludhiana visited Harike Pattan Wetlands and Bird Sanctuary to mark the occasion of World Wetlands Day, observed annually on February 2.
The visit was organized in collaboration with Society for Conservation & Healing of Environment (SOCH) foundation with the objective of creating awareness among youth about the ecological importance of wetlands and the need for their conservation. During the visit, students were briefed by the officials and experts on the rich biodiversity of Harike Wetland, which is one of the largest wetlands in North India and a Ramsar Site of international importance. The students learned about the role of wetlands in water conservation, flood control, groundwater recharge and as vital habitats for migratory and resident bird species. The participants were also taken on a guided tour of the bird sanctuary, where they observed various species of birds and gained insights into wetland ecosystems, conservation challenges and sustainable environmental practices. Interactive sessions encouraged students to understand the impact of climate change and human activities on wetlands and biodiversity. The educational visit aimed to inspire young minds to actively participate in environmental protection and promote responsible stewardship of natural resources. Such initiatives play a crucial role in fostering environmental awareness and reinforcing the theme of World Wetlands Day, emphasizing the protection and sustainable use of wetlands for future generations.
Principal Dr. Kamaljit Grewal applauded the efforts of the teachers and motivated students to enthusiastically participate in such educational visits.
